Bowlish – which means ‘bridge over the rocky waterfall’, is a picturesque hamlet that mainly consists of charming listed historic houses and cottages. A stone’s throw from local places of interest such as the ancient Cathedral city of Wells, the city of Bath, Glastonbury Tor and the vibrant local towns of Frome and Bruton. What can I say about Bowlish House, that could do it justice? The house on its own is absolutely breathtaking, from the second I stepped foot inside I knew my Husband and I needed to get married there. Every room is a treasure! We rented out the entire house for our 3 day wedding fest to host the bridal party and family from out of the country. Every single guest felt at home and they all adored their rooms! The home is absolutely perfect for any and all events, so if you are eyeing it, I saw go for it! Now for the real thing that brought it all together… Maryanne and her family. I never thought I could be so lucky for someone to care so much about me, my wedding and my family. Maryanne is a god send. She helped us out every step of the way. She and her family also catered for us, for both our rehearsal and our wedding feast! My wedding was made a dream come true because of Maryanne, her family and this incredible home! Thank you all again xxxx

Absolutely beautiful home in a great location that is an easy walk to Shepton Mallet. The rooms were great and there was a lot of attention to the food which was great. The owner, Maryanne, went absolutely above and beyond the call of duty in helping us. It was truly fabulous and I'll surely be back!

Absolutely awesome House!! Built in 1732, the residence has a wonderful vibe, and is so full of history. The hostess, Maryanne, was fabulous!! Her deep caring for her guests, attention to detail, and nurturing meals went above and beyond. She made the residence feel like you were "home". Shepton Mallet was an excellent location with short drives to Stonehenge, Glastonbury, Bath, cotswold, several stone circles and beautiful countryside.

We couldn’t have been placed better! The central location to all the major sites of Avalon and the historic charm of Bowlish was beyond our expectations. The food was incredible and created with such love and intention. Maryann accommodated the group’s dietary needs. Bowlish was perfect for our group yoga and meditations. The back garden so lovely. I’m sure the Fae love it there as-well! Grateful for all the love and kindnesses from our host. Thank you💗

Maryann, the owner, is the most wonderful, kind and accommodating person I have ever met! She went above and beyond to make sure everything was just right and that our group was happy, right down to the last detail. The meals were fabulous! I would highly recommend Bowlish House to any traveler! 😊

This place couldn’t be any better. We hired the entire house for the weekend and were not disappointed. The attention to detail to every single aspect of the house is exemplary! The house itself is stunning and well equipped with everything you could possibly need to feel comfortable, so many small touches which made the stay special. Maryanne, the owner was incredible communicating with my many questions in the lead up to the stay; but also on check helping us all settle in. (Including receiving and packing away a food shop!) Would highly recommend using Maryanne to help with any catering ideas you have - we had beautifully set up and tasty Graze boards in the orangery. A highlight!

An absolute gem of a house. So many delightful details, such a beautifully thought out space for large groups. Maryanne has been the most incredible host, helping us to feel welcome, looked after and well informed. I highly reccomend a visit to Bowlish House.

Absolutely loved our stay at Bowlish House, it’s an incredibly special place, so grand and so much character with the warmth of a lived in home. The eclectic mix of artwork and interior from all different eras makes it so unique. Perfect for a weekend with girlfriends. It was so well equipped and we couldn’t have asked for more! The host was so lovely and accommodating 🙂 would highly recommend!

We took the whole house for exclusive use as part of a Wedding nearby. Maryanne and the property were great, including catering for one of the nights. Will definitely be back

Our unique home will soon be coming to the end of a complex restoration project. Overseen by previous owners, Dee Murren and Nicola Knight, we are now in the final stages. We have lovingly restored this Georgian gem with both style, functionality and preservation at its heart. From the creaky floorboards, which we have grown to adore, to the original tall sash windows, shutters, floor to ceiling panelling and original fireplaces, Bowlish House is the perfect place to recharge and restore.
